Daching Thru the Snow

Ever since seeing the viral FB picture of a team of Dachshunds with a sled, Wendy, my dog class instructor, has dreamed of mushing with her dogs. The Wednesday before Easter we loaded up the van with two sleds and six dogs and headed to the mountains in pursuit of an adventure.
Hooking up turned out to be an adventure in itself.  We decided it would work best if Team Nookies lead the way which meant they had to be hooked up first a ways down the trail. Trask was so excited to see his classmates, he wrapped both Koyuk and himself around the tree the sled was anchored to while I helped Wendy harness and arrange Team Daching.
Who knew harnesses meant for northern breeds would fit and stay on Dachshunds?  As long as they kept a taught tug, their little legs didn't trip over the leg loops.
Team Nookies untangled and we were off...
with Trask and Koyuk leading the way...

and Team Daching in hot pursuit...
of varmints.

"Oh boy!" it's the...
rarely seen snowshoe Dachbunny...
and inevitable team tangle.

Team Daching really moved.

 They were so fast...

they spooked up another Snowshoe Dachbunny.

Team Daching flying down the trail.

and coming around the final home turn.
Who says Dachshunds can't mush for over 3 miles on sticky spring snow and flush out wildlife to boot?
