Christmas Morn In Antarctica - Gerlache Strait

We were in the land of snow and ice but, Christmas seemed so distant. Panama City and Santiago were 90 degrees when we went through there. Punta Arenas was in the 70's. Decorations were rare in Panama and Chile. There weren't any live trees or lights. On the boat, we had one artificial tree in the Ice Lounge; miscellaneous decoration groupings; an enormous, handmade gingerbread house in the galley and of course; my large wardrobe of Penguin Christmas tees.

Baked and decorated by our pastry chef.
Christmas morning was a day to sleep in. Brunch was scheduled at 1030. The daily program stated: "we are watching the weather to find a wonderful activity."

Absolutely NOTHING under a tree could equal Natures splendor outside my cabin. The day started with rocking and rolling on the west side of the Antarctic Peninsula in Gerlache Strait. I put on my "Ugly Penguin Christmas Sweater and Santa hat and went up to the Ice Lounge; grabbed a cup of coffee; and then sat in awe of the scenery going by my deck.

What a magical Christmas gift!

Wearing my Ugly Penguin Christmas sweater and Santa hat, I was off to brunch.
