You know it's cold when your fingers stick the the poop scoop handle.
You know it's cold when all the ponds freeze over. One of my little joys in life is skidding pebbles along the frozen surface of the large pond. The tinkling, chiga-chiga-ching sound always delights me. It changes pitch depending upon the thickness of the ice and the depth of the water. This ice has a very high pitch sound - except when Koyuk tried to stand on it. That was just a splosh, high-pitch-yelp. The ice on the deep end, which is in the sun, is not yet thick enough to hold an inquisitive Chinook. The dogs and Kitty also enjoyed the cold novelty.

Koyuk trying to engage Kitty in play.Willy knows better than to chase Kitty or test the ice. Mischievous KoyukYou know it is cold when, four dogs and a cat barely keep you warm at night. We are into the second week of below freezing temperatures. The power went off last night and just came back on. Our two heat pumps died three weeks ago. One was jury rigged to give 60-67 degree heat in the greatroom. It has run constantly to maintain the tepid, down the neck draft. My office has had no heat for three weeks. You know it's cold when four Chinooks crowd the office couch for warmth.
