Pieneau Bay

The afternoon of the 26th, we sailed along the Kiev Peninsula in search of better weather...

landing in the shallow Pieneau Bay, known as the iceberg graveyard.
Iceberg picture warning. We zodiaced for a three hours enjoying the seemingly endless grandeur created by the ever changing light on icebergs. I probably have exceeded the blogspot limit with this post.

Mt. McAllister - at 6480' the tallest on the Antarctic Peninsula.

The grooves on an iceberg are made from escaping air bubbles that form, than follow trenches in the ice. They can be seen when the iceberg flips

Frolicking Gentoo penguins

And more Gentoo penguins

We came upon the path from the ocean to the Gentoo colony at the top of a high, steep slope.

Time to return to the ship to put on my cleanest tee for a, by-invitation-only, 7 course dinner.
