Day 34 - Swimming

Yesterday I replaced the whelping box with a x-pen and size med., veri-crate. I thought that Koyuk had weaned the little sharp-toothed suckers but this morning she wanted to nurse. No picture (I was busy trying to rescue her but use your imagination): Koyuk and 8 ravenous puppies all inside a size med. veri-crate. As soon as they chomped down on the milkbar (picture below), she ran into the crate, her normal safe haven. Of course all of the pups followed. She was trapped and whining for help. She didn't want to step on anyone but she had to get out - now.
motherly calm before...
Karmin brought another friend to pup-sit.
She decided that it was time to try them in the swimming pool again but this time with a couple inches of water. These guys were out faster than we could put them back in. They didn't complain, they just didn't want to be in the pool.

Outdoor puppy haven with usual clothesline of puppy linens hanging in the background.
It was 87 degrees today and very humid. I soaked the ground and misted the puppies several times to keep them comfortable.

My efforts appeared to work.
The size med., veri-carte was just too small. Besides Koyuk's nursing misfortune, 8 puppies just could not all fit inside last night. While the puppies were with Karmin, I replaced it with a size large veri-crate and added a cross beam (mop handle) to the x-pen..
I hate giving up my beautiful, custom made, gift, whelping box. But all is not back in the attic. I decorated the mantle with the doors from my previous and current whelping boxes.
